Project: Open Floor Living Space Transformation
Contractor: Joseph O’Neill Decorating Contractors (JDC)
Location: West Yorkshire
Date: 2026

The Vision
The client’s objective for this project was to take a standard ground-floor layout and transform it into a seamless, high-end "Open Floor Living Space." The goal was to modernize the entire area, enhance the sense of space and light, and apply a sophisticated, designer aesthetic that adds significant value to the property. This comprehensive refresh involved intricate wallpapering, precise cutting-in, and full woodwork decoration.

Design Strategy & Cohesive Color Flow
For an open-floor layout to be successful, the transition between spaces (kitchen, dining, living, hallway, and adjacent rooms) must be fluid. JDC achieved this by implementing a carefully curated color palette across all surfaces.

1. The Open Living & Dining Area
Acoustics & Continuity (Walls & Ceiling):

Spec: Walls and Ceilings finished in "Attic Cotton."

The Look: JDC painted both the walls and ceilings in the same tone of soft Attic Cotton (as seen in image_0.png and image_3.png). This subtle design choice eliminates a hard line where the wall meets the ceiling, visually expanding the volume of the space. It creates an airy, 'limitless' feel that makes the open-floor plan breathe, maximizing natural light from the new bi-fold and rear doors.

Precision Woodwork (Feature Contrast):

Spec: Skirtings, door frames, and window reveals finished in "Strong White."

The Look: All woodwork received meticulous preparation and painting in Strong White. This creates a crisp, sharp architectural frame against the softer wall tones (image_0.png). Notice the precise lines where the Strong White skirtings meet the light wood flooring.

Textural Accent (Feature Wall):

Spec: Laura Ashley floral wallpaper installation.

The Look: The chimney breast in the living area features a stunning, precision-hung Laura Ashley wallpaper. This botanical pattern in gold/mustard tones (image_0.png) serves as the sophisticated focal point of the room, adding texture and warmth against the smooth painted surfaces. JDC’s experts ensured perfect pattern matching and a clean edge where the wallpaper meets the Strong White mantelpiece and the painted Alcove wall.

2. The Kitchen Zone
This seamless aesthetic flows directly into the modern U-shaped kitchen. The Attic Cotton walls and Strong White skirtings continue here, providing a consistent backdrop for the integrated cabinetry, white marble-effect worktops, and the light wood-clad upper units. (image_2.png and image_3.png).

3. The Tranquil Bathroom
JDC transitioned to a calming, tranquil palette for the bathroom/cloakroom (image_1.png).

Spec: Walls and Ceilings finished in "Pale Powder."

The Look: This delicate, soft mint/blue hue creates a spa-like atmosphere in the small space. Continuing the Pale Powder over the sloped ceiling area softens the lines of the under-stairs room.

Spec: Woodwork in "Strong White."

The Look: This maintains continuity with the rest of the house, offering a fresh, clean finish for the skirtings and door frame, contrasting perfectly with the light wood floor.

The Results
The final result is a breathtaking, contemporary home where every detail has been considered. The 'Attic Cotton' continuity maximizes the open floor plan, while the 'Pale Powder' bathroom provides a peaceful contrast. The 'Strong White' woodwork ties all elements together with clean lines. It is a true modernization that delivers both style and equity.
